[00:00:00] Speaker A: It's Take Control Tuesday. Mansa Musa is on the phone with me. Today. We're going to continue our series on trying to get through what we're getting through right now. And today we're going to talk about turning groceries into a household subsidy. [00:00:16] Speaker B: Yeah, listen. Today we're talking about how to turn one of the largest expenses in most household budgets into a small household subsidy. Most families buy groceries every week. That spending is already happening. The opportunity is to shop more intentionally, save more effectively and capture value from the purchases you're already making. So today I'm going to walk through a five step system. Start with the grocery budget. Shop with the list. Use sales and store discounts. Layer rewards on top. Direct savings toward a financial goal. So let's get into this. Okay, Step one Start with a budget. Everything starts with a budget. Doesn't have to be perfect, but you need a target. Know roughly what your household can afford to spend each week or each month on groceries. Without a budget, it's hard to tell whether you're actually saving money or just spending money differently. Step 2 Shop with a list A grocery list is one of the simplest financial tools available right before you leave home. Check the pantry. Check the refrigerator. Plan a few meals. Make a list. A list turns grocery shopping from a reaction into a plan. Mm. It also helps to reduce impulse purchases and keeps the focus on what the household actually needs. [00:01:56] Speaker A: Right. [00:01:57] Speaker B: Step 3 Use sales and store discounts. This is often where the biggest savings happen. Pay attention to weekly sales, store promotions, manager specials, low repricing digital coupons. Many households focus on reward points while missing larger savings from sales and discounts. The foundation of this strategy is buying food at a good price. Step 4 Layer rewards on top. After you've done the first three, then you add your reward. Join your store's loyalty program. Use digital coupons. Consider a grocery rewards credit cards. Some cars are tied to specific retailers. If you shop at one store a lot, consider that others offer cash back wherever you shop. The goal is to earn reward on purchases you already plan to make. But remember, pay the balance in full every month. We're talking about rewards, not debt. If you're carrying balances at 20 or 24% interest, this strategy just doesn't work. Period. [00:03:21] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:21] Speaker B: Step 5 Direct the savings toward a goal. This is where this strategy pays off. As the discounts, rewards and cash back reduce your grocery costs. That frees up money in your household budget. Use that money intentionally. Reduce cash flow. Build an emergency fund. Pay down some debt. Because small savings capture week after week become meaningful progress over time. So today we're talking about how to turn groceries into a small household subsidy. We started with a budget, we shot with a list. We use sales and discounts. We layered rewards on top, and we directed the savings toward a financial goal because in hard times, making every dollar count matters. And just as a personal testimony, I used reward points from my credit card to get over $500 worth of groceries. Whoa. That took care of us for a month. [00:04:33] Speaker A: Wow. That is amazing. It makes me encouraged. And we have to use every strategy we have these days. So we're going to put all that information on our website so everybody can use it attakecontrol Tuesday.com and Mansa, thank you so much. [00:04:50] Speaker B: And don't forget to like, share and comment.
