[00:00:00] Speaker A: I'm in the studio with one familiar face and one face that I'm getting to know because I think I know you. Anyway. D2, Nico Flowers. D2. How y' all doing?
[00:00:11] Speaker B: We're doing great. How are you, Randy?
[00:00:13] Speaker A: I am fantastic. Nico, you sent me a text message that you have a new song, and I actually was kind of thrown off a little bit because I know you from radio.
[00:00:24] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:00:25] Speaker A: You work for the affiliate in Atlanta.
[00:00:28] Speaker B: Atlanta. Yeah.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: You have to say it right. It's Atlanta.
[00:00:32] Speaker B: Yeah, it has. Yeah. Yeah, you're right.
[00:00:33] Speaker C: You're right.
[00:00:34] Speaker B: And, you know, I try to be so, like. I try to say it the right way, but people that's from Atlanta be like, no, you don't pronounce that T. It's Atlanta.
[00:00:43] Speaker C: Atlanta.
[00:00:43] Speaker B: Atlanta.
[00:00:45] Speaker A: I had to learn that. Not even because my family lives there, but because I was doing voiceover work for the MARTA. Oh. And they were like, you can't say Atlanta. Ms. Randy, you have Atlanta.
[00:01:01] Speaker B: Atlanta.
[00:01:05] Speaker A: So I'm like, okay. So if you were ever in the MARTA and you heard a familiar voice, it was probably me.
[00:01:10] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:01:10] Speaker B: I love that. Okay.
[00:01:12] Speaker A: Pretty cool.
You all are not only. Well, Nico, you're not only in the radio business, but you're also a musician. D. Two of you as well.
[00:01:21] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: And you all have come together to put a song that is so cool. I mean, you know, it's not R and B. It is R and B. Ish.
And it has such a brilliant message. It's called Right here, right now.
And D2, start off. How did this come about?
[00:01:41] Speaker C: So, yes. So I'm a musician, of course. Niko and I have been colleagues in the media space for some time now, and he's always known me to be a musician.
But, you know, it just really started from seeds of conversation.
Seeds of just being in a season, of not being put in a box.
[00:02:02] Speaker A: Yeah, I love that.
[00:02:03] Speaker C: And really just using all of your gifts, you know, and sometimes the routine can take priority over things, and you just kind of, like, allow other gifts to just lie dormant. And, you know, so we used to have those conversations. And I'll let him share this, but, you know, he went to a BMI event, and he. He had called me and told me, hey, man, right now I'm really inspired.
There are some people doing some amazing work in the writing space, and I feel like it's that time, and that's where all this started. Really?
[00:02:37] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. For me, it was a little scary because I had spent so many years in radio. And I remember, though, back in high school, I used to write a ton, and I kind of just let it fall to the wayside. And when I was in that room, I was seeing all the people. Randy. That we hear every day on our stations, and I was like, well, I. I got a gift too. And I was like, well, let me share my gift and get the writing. Because not only was it. I was thinking about it for me, but I was like, I may have something that somebody else want to hear that, you know, they can live through me. So that's where it came about.
[00:03:09] Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely.
[00:03:10] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, it's so funny because when you. You're thinking about the writing space. Dwight Stone and I had a conversation about that some years ago, about how music has changed so much. But if you are a writer, you're in control of your so.
[00:03:30] Speaker C: And you can do it.
[00:03:31] Speaker B: So you can't write no more.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: Right. So I really commend you for listening to God and doing this. Tell me about the song.
[00:03:40] Speaker B: So the song is called Right Here, Right now, and we were kind of messing around with some different styles and stuff like that. And, you know, I, I, I'm a. I'm a 80s baby, grew up in the 90s. And I was like, man, I really want to have that feeling. But still a positive message, right? And so that's what we kind of stuck to with this record. And we. We was looking for some people to get on.
And, man, let me tell you something. This guy, the guy who sings the hooks, his name is Javier Devon.
[00:04:05] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:04:05] Speaker B: He actually performed with Usher on the Super Bowl a couple years back. He's one of the dancers and super talented brother, and he did an amazing job. Once he laid the track down, we was like, all right, so we need somebody to take it up to us. We need somebody to take it to a whole nother level. And that's when Ken Jones came up,
[00:04:24] Speaker C: Just fell into place.
[00:04:25] Speaker B: And I remember D2 was like, we should send him the can.
And I was like, all right, well, we gonna see if it's good or not, because, you know, Canton's been in the industry for a while. And I was like, he's not gonna mess with anything that he doesn't feel like.
[00:04:37] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: For sure.
[00:04:38] Speaker B: You know what I mean?
[00:04:39] Speaker A: And he's been on the radio side.
[00:04:40] Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes, yes, absolutely. And so he gets it from both sides. But his reaction was great. I mean, he, he, he. He was like, absolutely.
[00:04:49] Speaker C: It was easy.
[00:04:50] Speaker B: It was so easy. And that's been one of the things for us. I told D2 before we started this, I said, hey, I'm in a season where I can't do anything that's going to be hard.
I can't do anything that's gonna be forced. I can't do anything that's gonna take me away from God's alignment. So I said, it needs to come across. It needs to be easy. It doesn't need to be like, begging and pleading and knocking on doors and sending emails, all types of nights and all that stuff. It just needs to happen. And when Kant gave us a yes and it was an easy yes, I
[00:05:19] Speaker A: said, okay, God, okay. This is.
[00:05:21] Speaker B: I said, I hear you. Okay, cool. And so that's what we always joke about. And I think that's a beautiful thing about our relationship, is we understood that very early that we're not trying to do anything outside of God's will. We're just trying to be ourselves. And people like it. They like it. If they don't, we'll create something else that.
[00:05:38] Speaker A: But that's the beauty of it.
[00:05:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:39] Speaker A: If you're doing it for the right reason.
[00:05:41] Speaker B: There you go.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: It will grow in a way that you didn't imagine.
[00:05:45] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:05:46] Speaker A: There's so many people who want to make a hit and get paid, but we don't get paid no more.
[00:05:52] Speaker B: Come on, say that.
[00:05:54] Speaker C: And to that point, like, one of the things that. That Nico and I both have is a heart to serve, you know, so even in putting out, this is an Indy 2 project, but the focus is not necessarily on us. We just want to be vessels.
[00:06:11] Speaker B: There you go.
[00:06:12] Speaker C: You know, and that's that. That's the priority. That's the agenda. Not to elevate ourselves, but to become vessels. Because as we walk in our calling, we'll pave the way for everybody else to walk in theirs as well.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: I love that.
[00:06:26] Speaker C: That's good.
[00:06:26] Speaker A: Well, let's listen to right here, right now on the Detroit Praise Network.
Right here, right now. Nico D2. Come on with this.
[00:06:40] Speaker B: Come on with this.
[00:06:43] Speaker A: I am so happy that this is happening for you right here, right now.
[00:06:48] Speaker C: Come on.
[00:06:49] Speaker B: Now. You see what we did,
[00:06:53] Speaker A: and I'm really sure that from here it's going to grow to other things.
[00:06:58] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:06:59] Speaker A: For you all. Maybe we'll see on the stage at the Stellar.
[00:07:02] Speaker B: Aw, yeah. Come on. Now.
Speaking of the Stella Awards, you know, the nominees just came out yesterday. I was nominated for Gospel Announcer of the Year.
I mean, I was shocked, too. I was like, wait, what's going on? Okay, cool.
[00:07:17] Speaker A: I'm sorry, I saw your name.
[00:07:19] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. But no, that's the goal. That's the goal. I like what you said, D2, about the vessel part, because at the end of the day, when I was sitting in that room at the BMI Awards, I was like, man, there's something, like I mentioned earlier, that we could have went through personally that somebody else went through, and we could write about it and help them. So a lot of times when we write, we're already thinking, who can we. Who can this song go to?
[00:07:43] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:07:43] Speaker B: Who would this song relate to? You know what I mean? So, yeah, absolutely.
[00:07:47] Speaker A: That is so good. How do we find y'?
[00:07:49] Speaker C: All?
[00:07:50] Speaker B: So you can find me on Instagram at Sir Nico and on Facebook, my government name, Nico Flowers.
[00:07:58] Speaker C: I'm on Instagram D2underscore on the radio. And you can find the right here, right now music video on YouTube on the Indy to Music Group YouTube page. You do not want to.
[00:08:13] Speaker A: I'm doing the whole thing. I love this.
I love this. I can't wait to actually start following all of everything that y' all do.
[00:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah, for sure, for sure. For sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: Well, thank you for stopping by in person. Thank you for having us, Randy, during the Stellars. I'll be popping in and out.
[00:08:31] Speaker B: Yes. I hope so. Now, come on. I'm trying to see Randy and Charlotte, you.
That's home for him. I came to you, now you can come to me.
That's a good deal.
[00:08:41] Speaker A: That's a good deal.
I can go to Atlanta, too, and
[00:08:45] Speaker B: you can still come to me.
[00:08:48] Speaker A: Thank you so much for stopping by.
[00:08:49] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:08:50] Speaker C: For having us.
