[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:01] Speaker B: It's Tuesday. That means it's time for Mansa Musa for Take Control Tuesday and Mansa. I look at these ratings when I'm shopping online. I look at the reviews, I look at the stars. Sometimes I am scared to buy something because of those ratings. So we're going to talk about that today. [00:00:20] Speaker A: Yeah, let's talk about the ratings. Like you said, most of us check them out before we by. For example, you're choosing between two restaurants. One is 3.8 stars, the other has 4.8. You don't know either restaurant, but you're probably already leaning toward the 4.8. There's a term in consumer psychology for that. It's called social proof. When we're uncertain about what to choose, we will look at what other people chose and what they thought about it to help us decide. Now that can be useful. Other people's experiences give us information we may not have. The problem comes when their experience starts making our decision. A product can have thousands of satisfied customers and still not be something you need or worth the price to you. So here's where you take back control. Let the stars get your attention. Let the reviews give you information, but let your needs make the decision. Okay, don't look at how many stars something has. Find out why people gave it those stars. Look for patterns. If one person complains about something that may be one person's experience. If the same complaint keeps showing up now we've learned something useful, then ask whether that information matters to you. Many reviewers love a feature you'll never use. Maybe they complain about something that you don't care about. [00:02:10] Speaker B: Right. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Or maybe they identify a problem that would be a deal breaker for you. That's the value of social proof. You're not asking the crowd to tell you what to buy. You're using the crowd to help you make a better decision. And remember, something can be popular, highly rated, and a perfectly good product and still not be the right purchase for you. So the next time you're checking ratings or review, remember, stars get your attention. Reviews give you information. Your needs make the decision. Ask yourself, am I choosing this because it's right for me or because other people chose it? That's how you be an intentional buyer and not just a consumer. [00:03:03] Speaker B: That is so true. I was recently looking for a mic screen and it had overall good stars and good reviews. But there was one person just trashing it and I was like, oh my goodness, this do I get it? And I'm glad I went with the other reviews and the the quality of the product and I'm happy with my purchase. So that's all great. Well, thank you so much, Mansa, as always. We're going to put this on our [email protected] share the information, like the information and give us a feedback as well. Mansa, thank you, thank you.
