[00:00:00] Speaker A: Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. I am so excited, y'. All. I have Lisa Noel Smith in the studio with me. How are you?
[00:00:08] Speaker B: I am so fantastic. How are you?
[00:00:11] Speaker A: I'm fantastic as well. I am so thrilled to have you here in the studio. You were in Toledo and decided to drive up here 45 minutes to see your girl.
[00:00:22] Speaker B: Absolutely. You know, I gotta come and check on you.
[00:00:25] Speaker A: I am so thrilled because. Because I was telling you off the air. I've been following you and the Brown Singers for a long time.
When quartet music is something you did in church or you listened to at home because it really wasn't on the radio, Right.
[00:00:46] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:00:46] Speaker A: And for your song promises, first of all, I hear it in my head like a spirit song.
[00:00:54] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: And amen. I keep hearing that.
For your song to go number one.
[00:00:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:01] Speaker A: And then on top of that, it's the sisters, it's the mama, it's the daughter.
Singing in that song is just so exciting to me.
[00:01:11] Speaker B: Me, too. You know, when I think of the legacy of this group, which will be 50 years this year, started by my grandmother, carried on by my mom, and the mantle pass to me, and now I get to kind of share the moment with my.
It's just a beautiful thing. And so, you know, God does all things well.
[00:01:29] Speaker A: Yes. Yes.
All things.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:01:32] Speaker A: And I have been watching you, you know, and condolences to you.
[00:01:37] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:01:37] Speaker A: And your family over the losses of your mom. I know it's a lot that goes into that, and the mental energy it takes to be able to get back out there and act like you, like people.
[00:01:54] Speaker B: You know, I don't. I think it's. I love.
But I think people don't understand sometime how your social meter can go down when you have so many things.
But I also understand that to whom much is given, much is required.
[00:02:10] Speaker A: Yeah. It takes some energy, and sometimes you just have to shut it down.
[00:02:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:15] Speaker A: And I know that feeling because, like I was telling you, I lost my dad two years ago, and then three.
Three years before that, my mom.
So it takes a lot out of you, but you slowly start to know, okay, I can do this. I can do this.
[00:02:32] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: You have your daughter singing with you. She's in the studio, but she's gonna be quiet.
[00:02:37] Speaker B: Yeah. That's what she decided to do.
But she's here. She's a powerhouse, and I'm really extremely proud to have her alongside. She said she wasn't singing her whole life.
Oh. She promised that she was never singing in this quartet group, and. But, you know, I Think something ignited in her when we lost my mom and her nana. And she. She told me the. Maybe a couple days after my mom passed, she said, I'm gonna stand in my nana's spot.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: Oh, I love it.
[00:03:08] Speaker B: And so I think, you know, for her and me, it's a. It's a little bit of healing in there that we get to share those moments together for sure. And so, yeah, I'm proud of my baby.
[00:03:18] Speaker A: I am.
I'm proud of her, too.
When I see you all on stage and you show the clips and things like that, the crowd, I love watching them, and they just totally get consumed in Jesus. Yeah. While you all are singing, what is that like to see?
[00:03:39] Speaker B: You know, it's beautiful because I pray to next God to allow us to let him have his way. And so anytime we're going, it's not like a performance, it's an experience. Yeah. So we want people to lose themselves for that 30 minutes that we're up or 45 minutes, you have an experience with God, and it's a beautiful thing. And it's encouraging and inspiring, you know, and then you realize, okay, God, this is bigger than me. Yeah. Because now people are being inspired and encouraged and. And, you know, uplifted through this music to. To go out and face this world, which is crazy, you know, so when I see them shouting and celebrating and even the little babies. Last night, a little boy, he just passed out. We walked, we walk, we up to him, and I said something, and he just passed out. I said, oh, bless his heart. He probably was 7 or 8 years old. Just a beautiful thing.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, because I can feel it from the videos, you know, I get shivers. The top of my head starts getting, you know, I feel that thing. So I'm excited because it looks like this movement, like you said, is bigger than you.
[00:04:49] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: But is resonating with so many people who didn't even listen to quartet music.
[00:04:56] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:04:58] Speaker A: That's amazing.
[00:04:59] Speaker B: It is. You know, and. And it's amazing because that song, I say it all, is transcending through generations and denominations and reformations and ethnicities. It's something powerful about just the message. And I think that's the lesson that we learn, that the message is important.
It's not as important as the messenger. You know what I mean? Because you have to be willing to yield God and say, God, whatever you want to do, I'm with it. And he'll do whatever he wants. And he chose a little country group of quartet girls from Memphis, Tennessee, to carry this message. That the promises of God are yes and amen in Christ. I love it.
[00:05:39] Speaker A: Oh, goodness. Let's listen to it.
Lisa Knowles Smith and the Brown singers promises. And she is in the studio studio with me. Thank you so much for stopping by.
[00:05:52] Speaker B: Thank you for having me.
[00:05:53] Speaker A: Seeing you in person does my heart so well.
[00:05:57] Speaker B: Aww, me too.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: I. I just. I really do feel that way. It's like you're a sister to me.
[00:06:03] Speaker B: Yeah, we are. I mean, you know, and especially I think. I think we connect spiritually. That's what it is. You do just good. Good folks know. Good folks. That what my grandmama say. Good folk good. We know. You know, a real man.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Yeah, she is right. Definitely.
[00:06:18] Speaker B: Well, what's coming up for you, the Brown singers? Several things. Again, like I said, the 50 years is. This year we're gonna do something to celebrate and honor. There's one original Brown singer still living and we're working on a documentary to talk about the faith and the legacy of the group as well as new music is coming.
And, you know, we're just getting ready. What I'm saying, ride the wave, you know, as God does his thing, traveling more and just. It's so much. I was telling my knees hurt right now from.
But it's a season I shared with one of my friends. I said, you know, we're in this season and every season isn't the same. So we're going to walk this season out and try to do it with grace and understanding that this thing. This thing is bigger than us, man.
[00:07:04] Speaker A: Let me tell you something. When you said walk, I want to learn how y' all do that walk of the stage.
[00:07:12] Speaker B: You can do it. You can do it. We're have to get a little tutorial out there, so. And it's amazing, amazing because all these moves and stuff that we do, we've been doing this stuff for years. Anybody who's followed us for years, they know we. But now the entire crowd, everybody knows. Every move, every walk, every dip. And it's.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: You've been scooting.
[00:07:30] Speaker B: Before it became a ball, before it became a thing. We've been doing that, you know, so to see everybody, it's just. It's just a beautiful thing. To see the unity. That's the word.
[00:07:40] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:07:40] Speaker B: The unity that happens when we're on stage and seeing everybody older and younger. The babies are scooting, the grandpas, Grandmama's a student. It's just a. It's a beautiful thing.
[00:07:51] Speaker A: Well, I will keep practicing. So next time I see you live.
[00:07:55] Speaker B: Yes, I'LL be able to do it when we come back to Detroit. Yes, we'll be back in Detroit later in the year. So I'm gonna make sure we get that information. Cuz I want to see you when I come.
[00:08:06] Speaker A: Where can we find you on social media?
[00:08:09] Speaker B: We are everywhere. So Instagram, Facebook, we even got TikTok. You know, I'm learning TikTok. My kids have to tell me, mama, you know, you viral on TikTok. And I'm like, what?
But I am L and Lisa no Smith and the Brown singers. And we love connecting with, I try not to say the word fans, but our family, our friends that support our music all over the world. We try to message back and share and you know, just kind of. Because that's what it's for, to be able to connect with people, you know.
So we try to make sure that we do that. But yeah, we're on all things.
[00:08:42] Speaker A: Well, thank you again for hanging out with me. I love you so much.
[00:08:46] Speaker B: I love you back. Thank you for having me and thank you for supporting and playing our music and. And just giving us the love that you do. S a girl.
[00:08:53] Speaker A: Amen.
