[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is Take Control Tuesday. That means Mansa Musa is on the phone with me. Manta, we've talked about how having a higher credit score can help you get a better job, insurance, even better rates when you're buying a home or a car.
But there's some statistics that you found that having a good credit score can even extend your life.
[00:00:25] Speaker B: Absolutely. Right here in metro Detroit. Randy, this is relative to zip code. What they have found out the credit score neighborhood you live in has an impact on your longevity.
There are zip codes in Detroit whose life expectancy is 10 to 20 years less than zip codes right next door.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: Wait a minute. Say that one more time. How much?
[00:00:57] Speaker B: 10 to 20 years.
[00:00:59] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:01:00] Speaker B: Instead of dying in your 80s, you're dying at 69.
Listen, it's tied to credit score statistics say the median credit score for Detroit is 568.
Oh, Randy, the stress from that will kill you.
[00:01:19] Speaker A: Yes, the stress.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: And that's what it is. That's what shortening your life. But here's the good news. See, we're not powerless and we've talked about this in the past, but I don't care where you're starting from, you can have a good credit score in time.
Anybody, all you got to do is the right thing. Put good news on your credit report on purpose. That's building credit.
And stop putting bad news on your credit report as soon as you can.
Yes, that's it. And listen, the bad news falls off over time and has less and less impact. Any bad news, once you stop putting the bad news on at the longest seven years, it'll drop off. But because you are smart about your credit, you can probably get it deleted before that.
[00:02:17] Speaker A: Yeah, that is incredible statistics and just goes to show what we've been talking about for years, how important it is to work on that because your life depends on it, I suppose.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: There you go.
[00:02:32] Speaker A: Well, Mansa, thank you so much as always for your information.
