When Don, Courtney, Anrea, Trent, and Amber are all in one place… you know it’s going to be amazing! Shelby 5’s new project S5 proves that they are a major force by combining their tight harmonies – without vocal enhancement by the way – with energy and an unashamed message about Jesus. Recently, I had the chance to catch up with the quintet. We talked about the changes in their lives as not only singers but business owners, minister and pastors. We also talked about this new project S5 and the single “None Ya Business,” which on the surface will […]

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Well, we go a long way back. A way back. And I am talking about when they were kids back. I got Shelby five in the studio. Yo, what's up? [00:00:11] Speaker B: Glad to be here. [00:00:12] Speaker A: Oh, yes. We back. I am so thrilled. The last time that I talked to you was minus a couple people. Draya, you were almost having a baby. [00:00:25] Speaker B: Yes. [00:00:28] Speaker A: And, you know, Trent, you was about to get married. [00:00:31] Speaker B: Yes, absolutely. [00:00:35] Speaker A: Courtney, you were getting married. [00:00:37] Speaker C: Yeah, I think I was already married then. [00:00:39] Speaker B: Yes. [00:00:39] Speaker A: I think you had just gotten married. [00:00:41] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:00:42] Speaker A: And then, Don, you was having kids. [00:00:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. All life events happen. [00:00:50] Speaker A: Amber, you just holding stuff down and taking over TikTok, and we got the babies here. [00:01:01] Speaker C: Yay. [00:01:02] Speaker A: I am so excited. It's three grandkids now, right? Y'all aunts and uncles now. And it's so cool. It is very, very cool. Well, I am excited, because the last time we did talk, you were in the middle of getting ready to have this recording, this live recording. [00:01:21] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:01:21] Speaker A: And it simply turned out amazing. Thank you. So happy. [00:01:28] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:01:29] Speaker A: And you have a new single from the recording, and give me the name of it. One, two, three. [00:01:35] Speaker B: Nanya, business. [00:01:38] Speaker A: Nanya. Nanya. I love this title. So who's gonna tell me what it's all about? [00:01:45] Speaker C: Put it at you. [00:01:46] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. So the song is like a. It's a classic groove song. We were sitting around the organ, and we were just playing this simple rhythm. And before you know it, we're humming a melody, and we wanted to write a song that was kind of in your face. You know, like, the lyrics of it are in your face, but it's still, like, a cool, trendy message. [00:02:12] Speaker A: Right? [00:02:12] Speaker B: And we came up with, none of your business, which means, give it to Jesus. Stop worrying about it. You can cast all your cares on him. [00:02:20] Speaker A: Come on. [00:02:21] Speaker B: And guess what? It's none of your business. He can handle it. Let him do his job. [00:02:29] Speaker A: On the surface, if you see none, which I have seen logo on y'all's page, none of your business. And you, like, what are they doing, right? Talking about. [00:02:42] Speaker C: I think the main thing is our problems aren't even our own. Like, when you're a child of God, no matter what you're going through, it's not even for us to worry about. Like, we have such an assurance that we can give every problem to God and just let him handle it. It's not about business. [00:02:57] Speaker A: You know, cast all your cares, not just a couple of them. Yeah. So I love the idea of the song having a title that people have to stop and go, what it's a ministry tool. [00:03:11] Speaker C: That's right. [00:03:12] Speaker A: Well, let's listen to it right now. All right, let's go in the studio with Shelby Five on the Detroit phrase network. And I mentioned earlier that so much is going on in you all's lives. Kind of live vicariously on social media to see what's going on. And I'm very, very proud of you all. I just wanted to let you know, personally, I'm very proud of what you all are doing. Lifting up the name of Jesus, making sure that you are unashamed every single time you open your mouths and you're on social media. And people need to see that, especially during these times. Courtney, I saw you preaching. [00:04:02] Speaker C: That was my little Easter speech. [00:04:04] Speaker A: Easter speech? Like the Christmas pageant? But no, you have it on you. Thank you. You have it on you, and I'm very proud. And, Donna, I've actually seen you preaching. You tearing the paint off the wall. [00:04:21] Speaker C: Don is an assistant pastor at our church. [00:04:23] Speaker A: Yes. And busy. Busy, absolutely. And Trent all over the place with minister. [00:04:29] Speaker B: Yeah, he's a preacher, too. [00:04:31] Speaker A: Preacher, too. And the challenge that you had, you and your wife did with the singing challenge, I scrolled through as many of them as I could, so I'm just connected. I really love it. And, you know, drea being the new mommy, and Amber, you just holding it down. [00:04:50] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:04:50] Speaker A: She is the boss, isn't shedden. You know, even when you all are talking about rehearsals and how, you know, who's the latest? And you were Amber always like, the. [00:05:04] Speaker C: Conductor, even as the baby, right? [00:05:08] Speaker A: Yeah. You know. [00:05:09] Speaker B: You know, you could shed a little light, though, on that. Who's the latest thing? [00:05:12] Speaker A: Oh, oh, here we go. [00:05:14] Speaker B: Can you let the people know the truth? [00:05:17] Speaker C: Well, listen, my name doesn't count. [00:05:22] Speaker A: Y'all had a circumstance as to why you were late. [00:05:28] Speaker B: For y'all. It always seems to happen like that. There's always a circumstance. [00:05:33] Speaker C: Thank you so much. [00:05:35] Speaker A: So I'm not even gonna get into it. Please don't. I'm not gonna get into it. Well, where do we find Shelby five on social media? And where can we find. None your business. [00:05:48] Speaker C: Yes, we are all over social media. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok. You can find us at shelbythenumber five f a m on all social media outlets, and then none your business is on all digital platforms. So Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube. I mean, you name it, you can find it anywhere. All you gotta do is search s five. The entire album is out. And you'll find Nunya right there on s five. [00:06:14] Speaker A: The album I think that this is a good one for driving in the car with the wheel. [00:06:20] Speaker C: It's a girl song. [00:06:21] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. It really is. And so you can. I always equate good music with what, you know, driving with a top down, if you have that, or windows down or at the beach hanging out. It's that kind of vibe. [00:06:35] Speaker C: It is feel good song. [00:06:36] Speaker A: Yes, it is. Well, I thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart for coming by. All five, y'all and offsprings. [00:06:45] Speaker B: We gonna do it every time for auntie. We love her so much. She's been so consistent. We're so grateful for you. Thank you so much, much. We love you. [00:06:53] Speaker A: Thank you. I love you all, too. Thanks a lot. [00:06:55] Speaker C: Thank you.
