[00:00:00] Speaker A: In the studio with D. Hattie Dietrich Haddon. What's going on, baby?
[00:00:04] Speaker B: Oh, it's good to see you, Randy. It's good to see you. Oh, it's good to see you, Pandy A. Good to see you. Oh, it's good to see you, Panda. Good to see you. Oh, good to see you, girl. Good to see you.
[00:00:18] Speaker C: What's up, y'all?
It's good family in the studio. Yeah, and.
[00:00:23] Speaker A: Well, amen to that.
[00:00:24] Speaker C: And in good health.
[00:00:26] Speaker A: Amen to all of that. And I'm so excited. I love your song. Never.
[00:00:31] Speaker C: Oh, my gosh, that song. I will never be the same.
[00:00:35] Speaker A: Never be the same.
[00:00:36] Speaker C: I wrote that song. You know, I learned that from my dad. After he would preach a message, he would sing a song that represents what he just preached. And I did that at my church in la. Hill City Church. And my church been singing it ever since.
[00:00:49] Speaker B: I will never be the same I would never.
[00:00:52] Speaker C: So when it was time to record it, I had forgot all about the song. And my armor bearer said, pastor, your album is not done until you put that Never Be the Same album.
[00:01:01] Speaker A: It's the song that you've been singing in church, right?
[00:01:04] Speaker C: And I said, you know, and it came out to be the first single for the album, and we haven't been able to move beyond it because people are being blessed and they're making a, you know, personal declaration that I don't have to be the same. If you look at yourself and see what you don't like, you have the ability to change it. If you get it down a path, you have the power to change.
[00:01:24] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:01:24] Speaker C: And so that's what that song is. Hey, I'll never be the same. You can say it every day. I won't be like I was yesterday. Today I'm going to do something different. I'll never be the same.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: You could walk out the door, come on and say the same and make.
[00:01:36] Speaker C: A declaration, say, that's it. I'm done with that. I'm moving to something better, something greater. And so that's why that song is here.
[00:01:42] Speaker A: And I have to tell you, what struck me the most about the song was actually from the video.
[00:01:49] Speaker C: Oh, okay. I got baptized all over again.
He baptized me with my watch on before we told him, okay, go ahead and dump me. Before I knew it, I was in the water drowning.
I said, hold on, man. We supposed to give you the cue so we can capture it on. Good thing the camera was rolling.
[00:02:07] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:02:07] Speaker C: And I really got baptized on the video. Never be the same.
[00:02:11] Speaker A: I love It. Well, I'm excited that you're here because you are coming home. Well, you're home right now, but you're coming back home for a live recording session. Two of them.
[00:02:24] Speaker C: Right, Right. And I haven't done that since Chain Breaker, and that was like, 25 years ago.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: I was going to ask you, when was the last time you actually recorded here?
[00:02:33] Speaker C: Well, shout out to all the voices of unity and shout out to my new hymns. We recorded the new hymns. Two recordings we did. Well, we did three. My dad's live recording, we did Chain Breaker, which was a big record for me, had so many hits on there. And I did the Detroit Sings new hymns some 30 years ago, but since then it's been like 30, 25, 30 years ago. And so I'm excited to be back home to record live because there's something special about Detroit. It's always been something special. It always will be something special about the city. So when I think about recording live, the first thing I think about is my city, my home, Detroit. I got to go home. Because you all know how to party. First of all, we know how to party. We know how to respond to good music, and we appreciate good music. We're not just sitting there looking. You know, we. When we hear it, we know it. When we heard them Clarks for the first time, we knew it. It was something special. The Winans, we knew a commission. We knew it, and we responded correctly. And so I feel like I got something special with these songs that we'll be doing. And I got so many of my friends coming.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: Come on. I saw Charles Jenkins this weekend at Triumph. And was he here? Yeah, he was here.
[00:03:41] Speaker B: I missed him.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: Yeah, he preached.
[00:03:43] Speaker C: Did he?
[00:03:43] Speaker A: Yeah, he preached this weekend.
[00:03:46] Speaker C: Oh, that's my. That's my brother. Charles Jenkins is one great guy.
[00:03:50] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:03:50] Speaker C: Out of all these gospel artists, he's probably one of the most humble, and.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: He'S very, very excited to be coming. To be coming.
[00:03:58] Speaker C: I mean, he's. He's big time. He's big time. This Means War is a big record and many other hit songs from Charles Jenkins. Reverend Charles Jenkins.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: So who else is going to be there?
[00:04:07] Speaker C: Major.
[00:04:07] Speaker B: This is why I love you.
[00:04:09] Speaker C: Because Major is going to be a Molly music. Everybody. We love Molly music.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:04:14] Speaker C: Innovator, creator. Molly music. The one and only Bishop J. Moss, pastor of Living Waters Church, Detroit's own. I can't come to my city and pay tribute and respect the great voices like J. Moss.
Tim Bowman Jr. Is coming. He's making waves.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: I am this weekend, too.
[00:04:33] Speaker C: Now, I knew he was at Triumph.
[00:04:34] Speaker A: With the youth choir.
[00:04:35] Speaker C: Yeah, I knew that, but I didn't know Charles Jenkins was coming. But Tim Bowman Jr. Will be with us. Great, great gift. Taking it to a whole other level.
The one and only Bishop William Murphy will be here. Detroit legend. We all come from Detroit. Tim Bowman, J. Moss, William Murphy, myself, all Detroiters. Tasha Paige Lockhart.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Yes. Come on.
[00:04:58] Speaker C: Incredible gift to the body of Christ with a legacy with her mother making waves right now.
[00:05:03] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Devil is a Liar.
[00:05:07] Speaker C: I love it. It's wonderful to see because I'm a huge fan of her mother's.
[00:05:13] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:13] Speaker C: But she'll be with us. Tasha Page Lockhart. Mace. The rapper Mase. Well, he's coming as Pastor Mace. Okay. So enjoy. Enjoy the gift that he's going to bring to the table. And I hope I didn't miss anybody. And a few more special guests. You know, you can't come here in the city. And I'm friends with pretty much everybody, so I say whoever, whosoever will let them come. If you want to grace the stage and come on there and sing a little bit with me, it's just going to be a praise party. Just come ready to dance, just come ready to scream.
[00:05:43] Speaker A: Come ready to come up with the energy anyway. And, you know, you going to bring your dj.
[00:05:47] Speaker C: I got my. I got lights, camera, action band, singers, dancers. It's a whole production. It's going to be fun. And I need everybody to get your ticket. Now. Don't be in the nosebleed section talking about, hey, Pastor. I don't. Hey, I can't see you way up.
[00:06:05] Speaker A: There now with the lights on.
[00:06:07] Speaker C: Get your ticket now at Ticketmaster. Or you can go to God's world, right? Don't. 7 mile right across from Grey Emanuel, shout out to Bishop Sheard and all the wonderful people there. But God's World is right there on 7 mile. I was able to stop by there the other day and just walk through there because God's World is very special to me and many of us who's been there. It's been a steeple in the city when all of my favorite artists records would come out. I would be standing outside to make sure I get the first CD off the top.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:06:36] Speaker C: When you open the box, make sure you give me that Winans record or make sure you give me that Commission record. I know every commission lyrics there is to know, every arrangement, every wine and song there is to know. I know every arrangement Clark Sisters, because I'm a huge Fan of the sound, contemporary sound of gospel music From Detroit.
[00:06:55] Speaker A: From Detroit.
[00:06:56] Speaker C: And you know, we all went to the same high school.
[00:06:58] Speaker A: Y'all did.
[00:06:59] Speaker C: Yeah, we did.
We went to Mumford. I don't know where y'all went.
[00:07:04] Speaker A: My high school.
[00:07:05] Speaker C: Cass. You look like a Cass Tech.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: I love it.
[00:07:08] Speaker C: Smart, just sharp.
[00:07:10] Speaker A: I am all of that. But my high school's now a Meyer store.
[00:07:14] Speaker C: What?
[00:07:15] Speaker A: I went to Redford.
[00:07:16] Speaker C: Redford. Oh, wow. Redford. What's yalls thing? What's your.
[00:07:22] Speaker A: Huskies.
[00:07:22] Speaker C: Huskies, okay. Oh, my God.
[00:07:25] Speaker A: I went to high school and shared a locker with Tune up, man.
[00:07:28] Speaker C: What? With the tune up, man. Wow. That's incredible.
[00:07:33] Speaker A: Still here on the air at kids.
[00:07:35] Speaker C: Oh, my God. I was able to talk with Mason in the morning and it's good to see everybody's alive and well and kicking and doing what they're doing and still doing it big.
[00:07:44] Speaker A: Still loving it as well. So it's going to be at Music hall.
[00:07:48] Speaker C: Music hall. Two shows, 3:00 show and 8:00 show. If you don't want to be hanging out too late, come early and check out the same. But we're going to be doing the same show. It's going to be. It's not going to be two different shows. You don't want to buy tickets for both shows unless you just want to. If you want to do that, you can.
[00:08:03] Speaker A: You can do that, but you'll be.
[00:08:04] Speaker C: Seeing the exact same thing now, I promise you. I don't know because I don't know how not to give my all. Yes, I probably would be a little bit reserved. Just a little on the 3 o'clock show. So I can. I don't know. I don't know because y'all know. I don't know how to restrain myself.
[00:08:18] Speaker A: It's not going to happen. So let's just say that it's not going to happen.
[00:08:22] Speaker C: Right when I get up there and I get a crowd, all that energy and I love it, that Detroit energy. When it comes to enjoying music, you cannot beat it. That's why I could have went anywhere else. I could have went to Atlanta, Chicago, anywhere. No, I'm coming home to Detroit and bringing it back home. And because I know, I just know it's home and it's comfortable and I can just really be myself and let my gifts just soar. Because you guys know me, you know, you know, you guys know me better than anybody. No matter what people think are saying, you guys know me. You know where I grew up at, you know where I was got in trouble at. You know, me. You know, aunties, uncles, nephews, nieces from.
[00:09:01] Speaker A: Detroit to Angston.
[00:09:05] Speaker C: Michigan, y'all know, it's just. It's just Didi. All right. But we coming back to do the music hall, and I'm looking for everybody to be there. I need everybody right now that's listening today to go to Ticketmaster.com right now and let's sell about. Let's say, let's sell. Today is a good day for 200 tickets to be sold. And I think we getting close to. We getting close, y'all. Don't wait too late.
[00:09:27] Speaker A: Don't wait too late.
[00:09:28] Speaker C: Wait till.
[00:09:28] Speaker A: Especially if you want to go to that evening show. Don't. Don't play.
[00:09:32] Speaker C: Right, right, right.
[00:09:33] Speaker A: Don't play. But I would love to see it filled up both times, and it's going to be so good to see, and I can't wait. I can't wait to see the pictures and I can't wait to hear the final product because I know you. I know you, and I know what you're going to bring.
[00:09:49] Speaker C: Randy, these songs are incredible.
I can tell you right now, it's my absolute best work. I haven't done any songs like these. I haven't done. It's creative, it's fresh, It's a little bit of everything. Futuristic, throwback. It's all of it.
[00:10:03] Speaker A: I love it.
[00:10:04] Speaker C: It's all that Detroit energy. It's all of it.
[00:10:05] Speaker A: You gonna play?
[00:10:06] Speaker C: Oh, no, no, no. We not playing with it. I've got the horn section. I got the band. I got the best musicians, the best singers.
It's just gonna be fun and just hearing fresh music for the first time infused with some songs that you guys love. I definitely won't leave there without hitting a few of your songs. But we're there that night to make history.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:10:27] Speaker C: And to create some new moments, new songs as we move forward in the future. Because we're getting ready for a tour and this is. This is kind of like the beginning of it. How I want it to look, how we're going to be shaping it.
[00:10:40] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:10:40] Speaker C: From this.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:10:42] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:10:42] Speaker A: That's good.
[00:10:43] Speaker C: So please be there. Y'all go home.
[00:10:45] Speaker A: You're always forward thinking anyway.
[00:10:47] Speaker C: You got to. You've got to. That's one of the secrets.
[00:10:50] Speaker A: You stay in the same boat all the time.
[00:10:53] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
You gotta be thinking about the future. That's one of my secrets to longevity. I was telling my team, they said, you're gonna do a live recording. Why don't you just do all your songs that you people wanna hear your hits. Okay. I always have a moment to sing my hits. What about tomorrow? What will be the sound that people will sing tomorrow? What is that message that we wanna say to this generation that will impact their lives? You know, because if people have been impacted by well done, Sinner's Prayer, he's able songs, okay. But there are new songs that can reach more people that can impact their lives. And so I'm always in pursuit of the next thing, you know, and that's what's keeping me going and keeping me thriving. People don't know I've been around here for 30 plus years doing what I'm doing, you know.
[00:11:40] Speaker A: Doing what you're doing. Yeah.
[00:11:41] Speaker C: But it's because I'm always thinking about tomorrow, you know, they said, what we doing? I said, we're recording an album to release for next year.
[00:11:47] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:11:48] Speaker C: What? Yes. You just put out an album?
[00:11:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:52] Speaker C: Okay. What's going to happen after that? Then what?
[00:11:55] Speaker A: Gotta keep moving.
[00:11:55] Speaker C: Gotta keep going.
[00:11:56] Speaker A: I am so happy to see you and I can't wait to hear, like I said, for what's coming. And always, always, you are just so near and dear to me. And I love you so much and your whole family, you know it.
[00:12:10] Speaker C: Yeah. Tell your family, your sister, tell everybody I love them.
[00:12:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I will, definitely.
[00:12:14] Speaker C: It's a wonderful thing.
[00:12:15] Speaker A: Definitely. Thank you so much. Dietrich.
[00:12:18] Speaker C: Randy, Detroit.
